Ellisys announces WiMedia Band Group 3 testing now available

Ability to test additional wireless PAN channels now included in all Ellisys WiMedia protocol test products and also available as an upgrade

Geneva, Switzerland -- April 21, 2008 -- Ellisys, a leading supplier of test solutions for USB, Wireless USB and the WiMedia Platform, today announced the general availability of new testing capability for WiMedia Band Group 3 (BG3). This new BG3 test capability -- the industry's first -- is now available as a standard feature in all Ellisys WiMedia test products to supplement Ellisys' existing WiMedia Band Group 1 test functionality.

BG3 testing was demonstrated last month at the most recent WiMedia Compliance & Interoperability test event held in San Francisco by the WiMedia Alliance, an industry promoters group that coordinates development of the WiMedia Platform specification. Ellisys was pleased to offer complimentary use of the company's new BG3 testing to the plugfest participants.

Band Group 3 -- which operates from 6.336 to 7.952 GHz -- is of technical note since it offers both higher bandwidth than Band Group 1's frequency range from 3.168 to 4.752 GHz, and an expanded number of available channels for wireless devices using personal area networking (PAN) wireless technology.

However, perhaps of more significance is the reach into the global market that BG3 enables for manufacturers of consumer electronics. BG3 facilitates the worldwide deployment of UWB devices because its entire spectrum range has already received regulatory approval in the United States and Europe, and some channels within the spectrum have been approved in Japan and Korea. Up to this point, manufacturers have had to produce localized versions of devices to meet local regulatory requirements.

Chipsets providing dual-band BG1/BG3 support and meeting the WiMedia Physical Layer (PHY) 1.1 common radio platform specification have been announced by leading semiconductor firms. BG3 is of particular interest to high speed Bluetooth® early adopters as worldwide deployment is a requirement of the Bluetooth SIG.

"This milestone of providing the industry's first BG3 testing is further proof that Ellisys provides the most advanced protocol analysis tools available for the WiMedia common radio platform. Our innovative features -- such as automated compliance testing, multiple real-time display views and hard-disk streaming of traces for virtually-unlimited capture length -- all now support Band Group 3," says Laurent Guinnard, Ellisys co-founder and President for Technology.

Availability & Pricing
Both BG1 and BG3 testing are now available for all Ellisys WiMedia protocol analysis products. However, in addition to a free software upgrade, existing customers may have to upgrade their WiMedia Platform radio subassembly to transmit and receive on the additional frequencies. As per Ellisys' Customer Value Protection policy, a hardware upgrade is available to assist customers who wish to do so. Two update options are offered to customers depending on their needs: 2 week round-trip factory upgrade and an Instant Upgrade. Please contact sales@ellisys.com or your local distributor for availability, pricing and further details.
